UNDERSTANDING THE PLANETS - THE VENUS

In the last series under “Planets” sections, we have described different characteristics of planets and in this series, we will understand the planet more deeply and will know what exactly the planet signifies.

In the last post of this series, we have discussed about the planet Jupiter. Here, we will discuss about the Venus.

Symbolic meaning of the Venus

The symbolic meaning of "Venus" is "femininity" and the primary qualities of femininity are “Beauty”, “Love” & “Receptivity”.

As senses help people to observe the beauty of something or, somebody, therefore , Venus represent "sensuality" , "senses" , "sensitivity" too.

Other than senses ; Venus represent the “Sense objects” and “Beautiful things” like “Wealth”, “Natural beauty”, “Artistic beauty”, “Personal beauty” etc.

Natural beauty includes -: flowers , fruits etc.
Personal beauty includes -: fashion , cosmetics etc.
Artistic beauty includes -: singing , dancing ,painting etc.

“Love” and anything related to it like “Romance”, “Peace”, “Sexual indulgence” etc. are also represented by “Venus”.

In the process of formation of a child, the female receives the masculine energy and transforms it into a child and therefore, femininity has receptive power and masculinity has inceptive power.

So, "receptivity" or, "cooperation" and things related to it like “love relationship” and “Marriage” is also represented by Venus.

Nature of the Venus

Venus is the brightest of all the planets and also known as the “Morning star” or, “Evening star”.

Such characteristic of Venus makes it the most influential planet for Earth and its effects are the strongest.



Venus manifests itself as “Media”, “Entertainment”, “Sensual/Materialistic pleasures”, “Luxury” and “Luxurious items”, “Food”, “Wealth”, “Music”, “Arts”, “Polite people” and “Females” etc.

Vedic deity of the Venus: “Shukra”

“Shukra” is the deity of the Venus. His father is none other than the great sage “Bhrigu” and mother is “Divya” (Daughter of the demon “Hiranyakashipu).

“Sukra” is the Guru of “Daityas” (Demons) and thus known as “Shukracharya” or, “Daityacharya”.



Sukracharya’s wife and daughter are “Jayanti” and “Devyani” respectively.

The Sanskrit meaning of the word “Sukra” is “Lucid, clear and bright”.

Description of “Brihaspati” in “Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra”

The “Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra” or, “BPHS” is considered as the fundamental scripture of Vedic astrology and there, the description of “Brihaspati” is given as follows -:

“The Venus is large bodied, has honey colored eyes, and hair, is phlegmatic, intelligent and learned is all classics/scriptures (Shastras).”

{The personality and nature of the native is influenced by the ascendant, strong planet of the chart & ascendant of the D-9 (Navamsha) chart.}

Venus as significator


Venus is the significator of all the things that it represents and till now, we got a general idea of what it represents.

Let’s go one step further into the discussion to know what other things the Venus can signify.



Venus signifies the following things -:



1. Marriage, married life, spouse (Especially, wife), partnership & partners

2. Females, romance, sex, love, attraction, affairs

3. Beauty, vitality, prosperity, splendor, grandeur

4. Royal nature, worldly pleasures, winning/dining

5. Pleasing, smiling, glamour, luxury, jewelry, massive wealth

6. Fine cloth, silk, diamond, conveyances/vehicle, hidden wealth

7. Film, cinema, arts, creativity, TV, photography

8. Theatre, music, poetry, perfume, fragrance, flowers

9. Actor, fashion industry, aesthetic abilities, painting

10. Dancing, singing, beauty parlor, literature, decorating

11. Cosmetics, banking & banks, hotels, chemicals, medicines

12. All white objects, female servant, people dealing with computer software

13. Sweets, bathroom, equality & all kinds of materialistic happiness


In Medical astrology, the Venus represents the following things -:

1. Kidneys

2. Reproductive organs for females

3. Secretions of different liquids inside the body

4. Semen

5. Eye sight

Appearance of a person influenced by the Venus

If the Venus dominates in the horoscope of a person then, he/she is said to be influenced by the Venus more than any other planet and may reflect some of the following traits in his/her appearance & behavior -:



1. Attractive & magnetic personality

2. Dark black hair & fair complexion

3. Beautiful eyes

4. Soft honey coated voice


It is not necessary that he/she will reflect all such traits as other planets also influence the appearance of the person.
