The ninth, tenth & eleventh house

The Mid-heaven Coeli (10th house)

The 10th house is present opposite to the 4th house; in the upper portion of sky where everything is clear and visible. This is called as “Mid-heaven Coeli (Latin for “Top of the sky”)” or “M.C”, i.e., the position of Sun at 12 o’clock in the day time or, the position of the zodiac sign just above the head at the time of birth.

Therefore, 10th house represents our role in society or, “Career” or, “Karma”.

Whereas the 4th house is all about “inside ourselves” like our emotions, feelings etc. ; the 10th house is all about “outside ourselves” like how we represent us in the society and our public role, along with its outcome like “Recognition”, “Fame”, “Respect” etc. and leaving home to achieve all these.

Moreover, 10th house also represents our “Father” because he plays a great role in building the career.

Here, we have some bullet points (for the ease of memorizing) that shows things related to the 10th house-:

  2. Father, authority, respect, recognition
  3. Status in life, public life, rise in life
  4. Fame, Prestige/honor, Image at work
  5. Energy levels at work
  6. Government, recognition from government
  7. Powerful position in the job, positions like politicians/CEOs/director of institutes

This house is considered as the most important house in one’s horoscope.

The 10th house is also known as “Dasham Bhav” or, “Karma Bhav” and its lord is known as “Dasamesh” or, “Karmesh”.

The 9th house

Then we have the 9th house which is also in the upper section of the sky but in the western side, i.e. in between the 10th house & 7th house and relates the properties of 10th house with the 7th house.

Therefore, how our role in society affects other people is represented by the 9th house and hence, 9th house is all about “Morality”.

Not only morality but the derivatives of morality like “Religion”, “Moral character”, “Philosophy”, “Dharma (Righteous duty)” etc. can also be seen from the 9th house.

Moreover, people who are very much responsible for teaching us such things like our “Teachers”, “Gurus”, “Priests”, “Preachers” and “Monks” etc. are also represented by the 9th house.

The 11th house

Lastly, we have 11th house in the upper section of the sky but, in the eastern side, i.e. in between the 10th house & 1st house and relate the properties of 10th house with the 1st house.

Therefore, how our role in society affects us personally or, physically or, tangibly is represented by the 11th house and hence, 11th is all about “Gains” or, “Profits”.

The main theme of 11th house is “Profits” because this is what we all want personally from our career and from profit comes “Enjoyment” and this is a kind of “Social enjoyment” like going to cinema with friends, going to picnic, enjoying dinner with someone etc.

Bullet Points

Here, we have some bullet points (for the ease of memorizing) that shows things related to the 11th house -:

  1. Gains, income, promotions, profits, rewards from work/job and things that are profitable to us.

  8. Ankles and lower feet area

The 11th house is also known as “Ekadash bhav” or, “Labha bhav” and its lord is known as “Ekadasesh” or, “Labhesh”.

This is all about various houses in Vedic astrology. However, many more things can also be known if we apply the concept of “Bhavat bhavam” on any house.

Our next series on “Houses” category will be upon the “Bhavat bhavam” concept where we will discuss the “Bhavat bhavam” of each “bhava” (House).

HOUSES IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY (PART-3)

In the last 2 parts of our discussion on the houses, we get to know many things about houses like, various house systems in astrology, the correct house system to follow etc. In this post, we will discuss about different categorization of the 12 houses along with the basic meaning of each house. If you haven’t read the first and second part of this discussion then I recommend you to read them first for better understanding of this topic. Read here -:  Part-1  ,  Part-2 Houses as “Bhavas” In Vedic astrology, a house is called as “Bhava”. The word “Bhava” means “Thoughts” and it is very obvious to name the houses as “Bhava” because each house possesses some kind of “Thought” in it and they represent certain things. Like the Rashis (Zodiac signs) and Grahas (Planets), they also represent certain things and thus each house (Bhava) has a special name associated with it that conveys its inner thought or, the related things that it represents. In the below table (f

In our last part of this topic, we discussed about some preliminary concepts on the houses and different house systems that are used in astrology by different astrologer. Today let’s continue our discussion further. If you haven’t read the first part of this discussion then I recommend you to read that first for better understanding of this topic. Read here -:  Part-1 The Perfect House System After an introduction to so many house systems, an obvious question arises in our mind, i.e., "Which is the most correct house system to use?" Well, the answer for this question is hidden in the experiences of Vedic astrologers regarding various house systems. First of all, among the two broad categories of house systems, most of the Vedic astrologers usually prefer the “Linear house systems” because of some limitations present in the “Non-linear house systems”, such as, They are only extensible to house from ascendant (Lagna) and not fro

HOUSES IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY (PART-1)

Introduction In n astrological chart, houses act like the containers for the planets and zodiac signs. Therefore, the houses are as important as the planets and zodiac signs and form the base of any prediction. In Vedic astrology; just like the zodiac signs (Rashis), each house has a span of 30° and there are 12 houses in total. The ascendant or, rising sign (The zodiac sign that rises from the eastern horizon at the time of birth) plays a vital role in case of determining houses and their span. For example -: If at the time of birth of the native, the zodiac sign “Cancer” is present in the eastern horizon at 7°00’ then, it is become the mid-point of the 1 st house and native is said to have “Cancer” ascendant. In this way, the sign “Leo” takes the mid-point of 2 nd house, “Virgo” takes the mid-point of 3 rd house and so on as shown in the below table (fig-1) -: fig-1 : Houses for Cancer ascendant people Similarly, for “Virgo” ascendant peopl
